Tory Lanez was seen back in court on February 28th on what was supposed to be his sentencing date. Judge David Herriford granted Tory a second extension to allow time for his new legal team to file a motion for a new trial. Lanez was scheduled to be sentenced on January 25 before being moved to February 28. Now Lanez new sentencing date is set for April 10th. At the February hearing, Tory’s new lawyer David Kenner asked for Tory’s gag order to be lifted, calling it “a terrible injustice”.
Herriford imposed the gag order on Tory, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, last April. The gag order prohibited Lanez from publicly speaking about the case or Megan. Now that the gag order has been lifted, he is free to speak if he so chooses to.
Herriford was asked what kind of motions he will be filing and he told the reporters they have to wait and see. Deputy District Attorneys Alexander Bott and Kathy Ta did not object to the delay. On April 10th, Kenner will present his motions to the judge. If the motion is granted a new trial will take place. If the motion is denied then Tory will be sentenced on that day.
Lanez was convicted on 3 felony gun charges in relation to the shooting incident with Megan Thee Stallion. He has been in jail since December 23.
