This is a sad story that just keeps getting sadder. The cause of death has been determined in the tragic death of 6 month old Ky’air Thomas.

Ky’Air Thomas

In Case You Didn’t Know..

Kason Thomas was abducted alongside his twin brother Ky’air Monday December 19, 2022 as they sat in their car seats while their mom ran inside a local pizza shop to pickup a #DoorDash order. #NalahJackson, 24, stole the car as the babies were inside.
Ky’air Thomas was located a few hours after a delayed Amber Alert was issued. Authorities said he was found in the economy parking lot of the Dayton International Airport in a car seat. Kason Thomas, at the time, had remained missing until being found alive and well by law enforcement. Kason was found shortly after police took #NalahJackson into custody.

The Death Of Ky’Air Thomas

On Saturday January 28, 2023, Columbus Police confirmed that 6-month-old Ky’Air Thomas died. Officers responded to a 911 call that said Ky’Air was not breathing. He was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in life-threatening condition, where he was pronounced dead at 11:44 pm.

At the time of the investigation a cause of death was unknown. It was being reported that the mom was allegedly feeding Ky’Air when he began choking on milk.

The Autopsy Report

The coroner’s office ruled Ky’air’s death as Sudden Unexplained Infant Death “with other significant conditions including unsafe sleep environment; post-prandial infant placed facedown, unsupervised, on an adult bed, surrounded by excess pillows and blankets”.

The autopsy report showed that Ky’air was placed face down on an adult bed with excess bedding and pillows. They noted he was unsupervised and in a post-prandial state, which means after a meal. The coroner’s release noted that the form of oxygen deprivation could be neither confirmed nor excluded in Ky’air’s death and this his death was ruled undetermined.

The findings also revealed no evidence of trauma or foul play. No charges will be filed.

What Is SUID?

The CDC defines SUID as the sudden and unexpected death of a baby less than 1-year-old in which the cause was not obvious before investigation. These deaths often happen during sleep or in the baby’s sleep area.

According to the CDC, about 3,400 babies in the United States die suddenly and unexpectedly each year. A thorough investigation is necessary to learn what caused these deaths.

The Family

There was so much joy when Kyair and Kason Thomas were finally reunited late last year right before Christmas. After they were abducted, the entire community was left to deal with a devastating turn of events with word of Kyair’s passing in late January.

“I am like in a state of shock for real,” Wilma Booker, the aunt of the mother of the twins said. “I literally, I really am. I am devastated I’m hurt.”

Booker said that the family is devastated and still trying to come to terms with Ky’air’s death, and that mother of the twins, Wilhelmina Barnett has been devastated by all of this.

“I just want people to know that Momo is a really good mom,” Booker said. “She loves her babies. I don’t want people to judge her like they did last time. I just want that to be known. I’m like in a state of shock for real, I’m devastated, I’m hurt for Momo. I’m hurt for Chaz the father, I’m hurt for Kason his twin brother because he is a twin, but I’m mostly, mostly, mostly, mostly, worried about Wilhelmina. She’s been through so much in the way of social media and everybody has been treating her. I just don’t want her to take a toll on her and want her to keep being the great mom that she is.”
