On January 26, a plane crash tragedy claimed the lives of Kobe, 41, and his daughter Gianna, 13; Gianna’s basketball teammates Alyssa Altobelli, 14, and Payton Chester, 13; Alyssa’s parents, John Altobelli, 56, and Keri Altobelli, 46; Payton’s mother, Sarah Chester, 45; the girls’ coach Christina Mauser, 38; and pilot Zobayan, 50.
The remaining family members of the four victims that were killed in the crash, are following in Vanessa Bryant’s footsteps with filing a wrongful death lawsuit. The surviving members of the Altobelli family and Mauser family claim the Island Express’s negligence was reason for the death of their loved ones.
According to TMZ, the remaining two Altobelli children and Christina Mauser’s husband, her son and 2 daughters make claims that Island Express negligently and carelessly breached its duty to own, lease, manage, maintain, control, entrust, charter and operate the helicopter in question in a reasonable manner.
The aftermath of the crash has caused physical, emotional, mental pain. The families want compensation for damages, turmoil, and for what their family members could have earned themselves if they had survived the crash and continued to work.
Island Express could very well go bankrupt. The lawsuit filed by Vanessa Bryant is HUGE! The insurance company is only going to be able to cover but so much of the claims. This is not even including the claims made by the other families.
The helicopter company do not believe they are directly at fault, and that the crash was nothing more than a tragic accident. On the morning of the crash, the LAPD had grounded their fleet of helicopters due to bad weather. The families of these victims feel that the pilot did not use his best judgement, ultimately leading to their demise.
