Earlier last week the Washington Redskins were considering changing their name after a lot of criticism.
The team announced Monday in a statement that the team will change its name and logo. The name has long been denounced by Native American groups as an ethnic slur.

Team owner Daniel Snyder and head coach Ron Rivera said
We are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition-rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans, and community for the next 100 years.
The decision to re-examine the team’s name also came amid a lot of pressure from several corporate sponsors, including FedEx, who have the naming rights to the team’s stadium.
Other brands, including Nike and Amazon, removed the team’s merchandise from their online stores. A high school team with the name Redskins also changed their name.
