American University Professor Allan Lichtman has accurately predicted every election since 1984. In 2016, he predicted that Donald Trump would win the election but for 2020 not so much.
The famous professor predicts that Trump will not beat Biden in the 2020 Presidential race. Lichtman uses a system that he created “13 keys” that determine who will win. He also accurately predicted that Trump would be impeached.
The keys predict that Trump will lose the White House, Lichtman says in a New York Times video op-ed released Wednesday.
Before you get too excited, Lichtman says it’s a close contest and notes that there are extraordinary factors that could still alter the outcome.
The 13 keys in his system include factors like incumbency, long-term and short-term economic figures, social unrest, and scandals, as well as the candidates’ personal charisma.
According to Lichtman’s system, seven of the 13 keys favor Biden for the win, and six favor Trump. This seems like a very close race and Biden only wins by the skin of teeth according to the system.
Although Lichtman has been correct for over a decade, he still encourages everyone to get out and vote. It almost seems like he doesn’t have much faith in the system this time around.
It’s up to you, the voter, to decide the future of our democracy, he says. So, get out and vote. Vote in person. Vote by mail.
Who knows, do you all think Lichtman will continue with his streak of being accurate, or will the keys let him down this time? We will find out in November.
