Last week we reported that 3 men and 2 teens were arrested for the murder of rapper Pop Smoke.

Today 2 of the 3 men and the 2 teens were charged with 1st-degree murder and robbery. According to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, 19-year-old Cory Walker and 18-year-old Keandre Rodgers are who prosecutors say killed Pop Smoke during the robbery.

A 17 and 15-year-old were also charged but due to their age, their identities are being withheld. 21-year-old Jaquan Murphy was arrested last week initially, but he has not been charged in Pop Smoke’s death. However, Murphy will face murder and attempted murder charges in shootings unrelated to Pop Smoke that took place in LA earlier this year.

Pop Smoke whose legal name is Bashar Barakah Jackson was gunned down and killed in an attempted robbery back in February. Pop Smoke was staying in a luxury Air BnB. His location was given away via his Instagram story. There is no evidence that proves that where they got it, but authorities believe it is how he was found.

On the night of February 19, 2020, shortly before 5 am, the men entered the home attempting to rob Pop Smoke. He was shot during the altercation and later died at a local hospital.

Pop Smoke had previous ties to the Crips, and according to LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division Head, Jon Tippet, he said the suspects are all connected to a local street gang. The affiliated gang was not mentioned, however additional charges are being filed against Walker and Rogers due to their affiliation.

If convicted, Walker and Rogers both face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Pop Smoke was only 20 years old when he was killed. The rapper was set to tour this year. He had just released his second mixtape ‘Meet The Woo 2’ about two weeks before his untimely death. His debut studio album ‘Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon’ debuted on July 3.

This story will continue to be updated.
