A Texas grand jury has indicted Netflix on child pornography charges. Netflix and its top executives are being accused of “promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child” with regard to the controversial French film “Cuties.”

Netflix caught a lot of backlash over the trailer as well as the description of the movie. The management team made the necessary adjustments after backlash from parents.

According to the indictment, Netflix “knowingly promotes visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time.”

Cuties that premiered on Netflix September 9th won a prize at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in February. The movie was based on the French movie “Mignonnes”.

In the film, 11-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew. The movie honestly wasn’t what people made it out to be. It simply was about a troubled girl who attempts to find herself by gaining the acceptance of others and winning a dance contest.

Netflix is standing by its film with belief that they did nothing wrong.

“Cuties’ is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film.”
