Wayne has been in the news heavy lately. Recently it was revealed that Lil Wayne sold his masters to Universal Music Group for $100 million after being sued by his former manager Ronald Sweeney for $20 million. On top of that news, Wayne also pleaded guilty to a gun charge from an incident that took place in December 2019. He will be sentenced for that crime on January 28, 2021.
However, that was not the case. New information was released in regards to Sweeney’s lawsuit. The lawsuit clarified that Wayne actually sold Young Money’s catalog for $100 million and not his own. That catalog included songs and albums from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and many more.
The report confirms that the massive deal took place in June 2020. It is still unclear which of Drake’s albums were sold in the deal. Most of Drake’s projects up until 2018 were released under Young Money Records.
Now as for Nicki Minaj, just about all of her major projects including her most recent project Queen was released under Young Money. Universal Music Group now owns the masters for all of Drake’s pre-2018 music as well as the mass majority of Nicki’s career.
Was this a smart move on Wayne’s behalf?
