Kanye West did not submit any of the 10,000 signatures he needed today by noon to get on the ballot in South Carolina for the presidential election.
Kanye held his 1st campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina yesterday. Last week, he successfully got his name on the ballot as an independent in Oklahoma. In Oklahoma, just a $35,000 filing fee is required.
As the noon deadline approached today, no one on behalf of Kanye showed up to present the petition to the South Carolina Election Commission. In order for him to appear on the ballot in South Carolina, he would have had to been nominated by one of the 10 political parties certified in SC. Kanye announced that he would be running under the self-created “Birthday Party”.
Kanye’s team states that they will continue to rally in other states. He will need several more states to be able to reach the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency. There are currently only 306 electoral votes up for grabs in states where the filing deadlines have yet to pass.
