Yusuf Hawkins was a black teenager who was killed by a white mob in 1989. His death was detailed in the HBO documentary Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn. In the documentary, Hawkins and his friends traveled to Bensonhurst to check out a 1982 Pontiac that was for sale. A mob of white men misidentified them as another black man who they thought was dating a white woman.
Thirty white men surrounded Hawkins and his friends carrying baseball bats and other weapons. During this confrontation, someone in the angry mob shot Hawkins. Raucci originally faced murder charges but was convicted on a lesser count and sentenced to probation with community service for possession of bat using as a weapon.
