The Georgia Bureau of Investigation(GBI) is looking into the incident where the Goodman family says police officers open fired on their children between the ages of 9-16. The incident occurred around 8:00 am in Waycross, GA. Waycross, GA is near the Georgia-Florida state line.
According to GBI, Waycross Police Department officer saw the car allegedly make a traffic violation at an intersection. The police officer stopped the vehicle. The 3 younger siblings ages 14, 12, and 9 ran from the vehicle. It was later revealed that the brother told them to get out the car and go get their father. The two older siblings ages 16 and 15 remained in the car. The officer stated, the car lurched forward toward him as he approach the vehicle. The back up officer who arrived began to open fire. The children were not injured by the bullets.

It was revealed that the children had been driving home from a Walmart. They were excited about attending travel football tournament later in the day and wanted to get some items before leaving.
According to the Waycross police department statement, The 15 and 16-year-old were arrested after the incident and have been charged with several items. The 16 year old has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless driving, running a stop sign, and driving without a license. The 15 year old was charged with additional crimes of obstruction of a police officer and attempting to remove an officer’s firearm. The officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Atlanta attorney Gerald Griggs, who serves as vice president of the NAACP’s Atlanta chapter is requesting release of officers body cam and dash footage.
I’m very concerned that shots were fired while children were involved. We’re concerned that level of force was used.
The GBI said once it has completed the investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Ware County District Attorney’s Office.
