On Thursday, September 3rd, a George Washington University history professor announced on her Medium account that she was pretending to be Afro-Latina throughout her career. She was known to most as Puerto Rican Bronx native Jess La Bombalerar.
On her post she states,
I am not a culture vulture. I am a culture leech. I have thought about ending these lies many times over many years, but my cowardice was always more powerful than my ethics.
She revealed her real name is Jessica Krug and a white Jewish woman from suburban Kansas City. Her area of expertise at George Washington University’s history department included Africa, Latin America, and African American History. Krug continued to explain that because of creating this false narrative. She would not be surprised if she was cancelled and welcomed it. She states on her post,
I should absolutely be canceled. No. I don’t write in passive voice, ever becasue I believe we mst name power. So, you should absolutely cancel me, and I absolutely cancel myself. What does that mean? I don’t know…I have built my life on a violent anti-Black lie, and I have lied in every breath I have taken.
Many people have made comparisons to the Rachel Dolezal scandal that occurred over 2 years ago. Many have expressed there frustration and disappointment on social media over the lie and are wondering why she came forward now.
