In June 2020, Forsyth County, Georgia, Sheriff Ron Freeman, requested a new investigation into the mysterious death of Tamla Horsford. A black mother of 5 who died at an adult sleepover in November 2018. The death was initially ruled accidental by the medical examiner. Suggesting, Horsford died as a result of falling off a balcony.

After much public outcry, including celebrities like Kim Kardashian and 50 Cent also calling attention to the cause and several gaps in the initial investigation that included evidence that may have been compromised, according to family attorney Ralph Fernandez. In a letter written to the husband of Tamla Horsford, Ralph Fernandez said,
The review reflects that a homicide is a strong possibility. Witness statements are in conflict. A potential subject handled the body as well as the evidence prior to the law enforcement arrival. A remarkable fact is that there were no photographs taken during the autopsy of Tamla’s body This had been done at someone’s directive because such a practice is unheard of.
Eighteen months after her death, her mother and sister are speaking out publicly for the first time. The family remembers the good times with Tamla. Summer St. Jour Jones, Tamla Horsford’s sister, said,
Supermom. Supermom. She made sure she could provide for them. She was always the type of person who would stand up for the little guy.
Although her sister is glad that the case is now getting the recognition for action to be taken. It is also bittersweet. St. Jour Jones said,
It’s unfortunate that it has to take other people’s heartbreak and other people’s loss for the proper attention to be given this case involving my sister.
