11-year-old Anisa Scott was shot while riding in the car with her mother’s boyfriend to the store. According to the Madison Police Department, a vehicle pulled up and opened fire. One of the bullets struck Anisa in the head. She was rushed to the hospital and remained on life support for two days before her family made the heartbreaking decision to remove her from life support on Thursday, August 11th. In the statement the police released, it stated,
The victim was a passenger in a car that detectives believe was targeted by a gunman; however, they indicate the driver, not the 11-year-old, was the person being shot at.

Prosecutors say they were allegedly targeting the driver of the vehicle Anisa was riding in. The driver is Christopher Carthans, who is Anisa’s mother’s boyfriend.
Four years ago, at age 7, Anisa appeared in her stepfather’s Rafael Ragland anti-gun violence video. At the time, she was praying for a little boy killed in Chicago.
In the video, she says the following prayer,
Heavenly Father, can you please listen to me ’cause I am so scared? God, no one else is fixing Chicago. So I’m asking you, can you please fix Chicago? I get all A’s in school. I’m really good. But can you do this for me, please? They won’t stop shooting. They won’t stop killing. They won’t stop it. God, can you make it better, please?
Nineteen-year-old Perion Carreon and 16-year-old Andre Brown, have both been charged with first-degree intentional homicide as well as attempted first-degree intentional homicide. 17-year-old Jerry Ward was arrested on Wednesday, 8/20/20, for a burglary. Counts of first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree attempted homicide are expected to be added on Thursday.

After her death, Ragland re-shared Anisa’s message asking for an end to gun violence. The video has over 30,000 views on Facebook.
Ragland said to WISC,
She wanted it to be seen. I’m sad that it took this for people to see it.
