ACADEMY AWARDS SET NEW INCLUSION RULES FOR BEST PICTURE

Must Read

For the 2024 award season, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that oversees the Oscars, announced new standards for the best picture category.

A long argued issue with the Oscars is the overwhelming lack of diverse representation.

The requirements will consist of meeting 2 of the 4 categories to be accepted as a possible nomination.

On-screen representation/themes/narrative; Creative leadership and project team; Paid internships and apprenticeships, and Audience Development.

The categories range from those acting in the project,  to those working on the project in a technical position, to interns, to the studio and company producing the project.

It also will provide better inclusion for those with disabilities or apart of the LGBTQ communities to be in those positions or their stories being told as well.

Of course, a lot of notable Hollywood actors are expressing their opinions about it.

Some are very happy about the changes while others are against it and what it means for Art and free expression.
