As with everything else that’s been virtual since the pandemic started, so has church. But that hasn’t stop Dr. Laverne Wimberly, 82, from still dressing to the nines every Sunday.
Dr. Wimberly, who attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, hasn’t missed one service or one Sunday’s best outfit, accompanied with beautiful jewelry and of course a matching hat.
She told WVLT “I just decided at that point I’m just going to get dressed as if I was going to church, so I would not get into the habit of just slouching around,” unlike most of us who attend service probably in our pajamas or loungewear on the couch and some of us even still in bed.
“I just decided at that point I’m just going to get dressed as if I was going to church, so I would not get into the habit of just slouching around,”
Not Dr. Winberly however, not only has she kept track of each look to prevent repeats, but she also posted pictures of her looks on Facebook.
In addition to the photos, she offers words of encouragement to “…keep myself motivated..” and “…to help keep others motivated as well, to inspire them, encourage them, and kind of eradicate some types and forms of depression, isolation, fear and despair.”
Dr. Wimbwely can’t wait to return to in-person services again but isn’t planning on doing so until experts say it’s safe. Noting that she’ll “probably be the first one in the door.”
