As we reported on Friday, multiple people were injured in a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the local mayor said. None of the victims’ injuries appeared to be life-threatening and they are being taken to the hospital.
Officers initially responded around 2:50 p.m. Friday for a report of a shooting near the northwest entrance of the mall. Police said the Mayfair Mall has since been secured and there is no longer a threat to the public.
At that time the shooter was still at large until today. Wauwatosa police announced Sunday afternoon that they have arrested a suspect in the shooting. The Wauwatosa Police Chief identified the suspect as a 15-year-old male Milwaukee resident who was arrested on Saturday night after police pulled over his vehicle. The weapon that was used in the shooting was also recovered.
Police searched for a suspect after the shooter left the scene after the shooting on Friday, officials said. A Facebook post from the police department posted on Friday night said that the shooting likely came after an altercation, and was believed to not be a random act.
According to reports, seven adults and one teen were injured and hospitalized after the shooting. Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said in an update on Friday evening that the extent of their injuries was unknown, but all were alive.
